Group Guidelines:
• “Coconut wire” HIPAA “What’s said in group stays in group”, use first names only and you don’t have to use your camera if you are more comfortable.
• Listening to others stories can bring up stuff that’s too big for group, you can call (1-800-753-6879) to call Crisis Line in a (danger to self or other situation) or call your 1-1 therapist.
• Managing alliances
• Group treatment vs. Individual 1-1 Therapy expectations…Group= skill building and exploration and practice. 1-1 = Trauma processing or regulation management.
• We encourage participation in 1-1, ongoing support groups like ACA…or?…….
• Respecting everyone’s fingerprint and “opinions”.
• Giving everyone a chance to share, limit the time if sharing to…? (To be set each group)
• No recording or having other unrecognized…. on the sideline/off camera participants..
What is trauma?
‘Unprocessed or digested traumatic memory”
What is EMDR and how does it work? F. Shapiro
“Getting past your past”
EMDR Moves memory from unprocessed (implicit) into a new (narrative) memory through (BLS) bilateral stimulation or (DAS) dual attention stimuli “eye movement or tapping etc.”
How do we define “Resources?”
1. The first and most important resource is each other…. we are “Mammals First”.
Definition= “an action or strategy which may be adopted in adverse circumstances.
“Sometimes anger (or my cat) is thSent from client this morning :)e only resource left in a situation like this”.
The Body Keeps the Score! (Vander Kolk 2014)
0. Bringing harmony and strength to our nervous system
0. Getting the “Scores to work for us rather than against us!” ‘Regulating by measuring” your nervous system. (Role play)
a. SUD= “subjective units of distress”
b. BOC= “ Belief of Capacity” and GOF “Goodness of fit”
c. LOU= “Level of urge”
d. Breath work
e. Visualization
f. Meaning/symbolism/safety/belonging
“The Mind Can Free or Enslave Us” (Bhagavad-Gita)
(NC/PC) defined: Positive Cognition or Negative Cognition
“A negative or positive belief that both defines and/or regulates us” (F. Shapiro)
“For our purposes, recall that cognitive interweaves (Shapiro, 2001) are designed to link up the frozen or dysfunctional neural network with the more adaptive network. Interweaves include
1. Providing new information
2. Stimulating held information
3. The adult perspective
4. “I’m confused”
5. “What if it were your child”
6. Metaphors/analogies
7. “Let’s pretend”
8. “The Socratic method”
